Hazel McMahan Roach age 98, of Rutherfordton, N.C passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Oakland Living Center after a brief illness. She was born on September 2, 1916 to Van F. McMahan and Genette Carpenter McMahan in Forest City, N.C. and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Hazel was employed at Stonecutter Mill of Spindale for over thirty years. Hazel loved life and was loved by everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Hoke Roach, parents Van F. and Genette Carpenter McMahan, and brother Carl McMahan of Rutherfordton. Hazel is survived by her brother Lemuel Van McMahan of Gloucester, VA, nephews David McMahan of Forest City, Bud McMahan of Shelby and Michael V. McMahan of Gloucester, VA, and nieces Lucy M. Mays of Fairfax, VA and Sara M. Nicosia of Johnson City TN well as many great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Oakland Living Center for their tender and loving care of Hazel during her years there. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, April 19, 2015 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 20, 2015 with Reverend Ronald Setzer officiating.
