Henry Neil Castles Sr.

Henry Neil (Soapy) Castles Sr. age 87, of Charlotte went home to his Lord on August 4th, 2022.
Born in Marion, North Carolina on October 1st, 1934 to the late Donald Jackson Castles and Elizabeth Rucker Castles. Neil is preceded in death by his wife Iris Jean Castles, infant brother Donald Wray Castles and grandson Brandon Ray Dalton.
Neil is survived by his, children Susan Mowbray (Ken) of Southport, NC, Donna Wolfer (Dean) of Galveston, TX, Neil Castles Jr. of Morrisville, NC , grandchildren, Jessica Ramirez, Taylor Aldridge, Robert Aldridge, Ashley Ramirez, Jesse Aldridge, Zac and Chloe Castles and six great grandchildren. Neil is also survived by three brothers-n-law’s which he considered brothers, Roger Gallion, Wayne Gallion and Dennis Gallion.
Neil “Soapy” Castles was a retired NASCAR driver racing from 1957 to 1976. He won the Grand National East Series Championship in 1972 being one of only two drivers to hold that honor. Racing provided a path for a dual career as a stunt driver in the motion picture industry and later in life as picture show coordinator for stunts and transportation.
Neil Castles was a teacher of work ethic and drive, never knowing the words “Stop” Can’t” or “No”. Neil survived cancer for over 20 years after being told that he had less than 3 months to live in 2001. With an amazing faith in Christ he astonished every physician on his journey.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, 710 Mountain Creek Rd. Rutherfordton, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM to 11:55 AM prior to the service at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Pastor Brian Blanchette officiating.
