James "Roland" Arrowood

James Roland Arrowood, age 93, of Rutherfordton, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2021. 

He was the son of the late Bob and Ethel Conner Arrowood. In addition to his parents Roland was preceded in death by one son, James Michael Arrowood. His siblings, Bill Arrowood, Reid Arrowood, Mafoe Laughter, Doris Alley and Maxine Holbrook. 

He enjoyed his family, golf, and his many friends. 
He is survived by his wife Ruth Hoover Arrowood. They were married for 71 and a half years. Other survivors include one daughter, Susan Walker, and her husband Tommy, two grandchildren Jamie Walker and his wife Gretchen of Gastonia, and Ashley DeLapp and her husband Mark of Charlotte. Mr. Arrowood was the great-grandfather of Sutton and Schafer DeLapp and Matthew Walker and Alex Miner. He was the great-great grandfather to Samuel Miner. He is also survived by one sister, Emma Parker of Union Mills, and a number of nieces and nephews. He retired from Cone Mills. He worked in supervision for many years. After retirement, he missed working with people. He then worked at Harris Teeter and Ingles. He loved his co-workers and his work staff. 
Mr. Arrowood was a loyal charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He served in many positions including choir member and deacon. He was also a member of The Gideon International Camp (Rutherfordton). He loved golfing with his friends. They made many good memories together. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren was his most cherished moments. 
The family would like to thank his hospice team, his caregivers and a special thanks to Dr. Jim Van Jura and his staff. 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Fellowship Baptist Church in the fellowship hall, and Mr. Arrowood will lie-in-state during that time in the sanctuary. The funeral service will be at Fellowship Baptist Church at 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2021 with Reverend Tom Runyan and Jamie Walker officiating. Interment will be at Southern Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral service with Reverend Bryan Hardin officiating.
