Charlie Burgess, age 86, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. A native of Polk County he was the son of the late William Walter and Mamie Arledge Burgess. Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II with the 70th infantry Trail Blazers 176th Regiment 4th Battalion D company and a member of the local VFW. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. He was the widower of Pauline Ruff Burgess. He is survived by One Daughter: Sandra B. and husband Charles Cordell, Penrose, NC Two Sons: J. Kevin Burgess, Newnan, GA Perry Burgess and his partner King Banks, Falls Church, VA One Brother: Dean Burgess, Spindale, NC Special Friend-Martha Parker of Rutherfordton The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at McMahan's Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with Dr. Keith Stephenson and Rev. Brandon Wood officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard will be at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery, Mill Spring NC.
