Reverend John Jay Huntley, Sr., age 98, of Forest City, NC, died on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home.
Preacher John was the son of the late Jesse and Nancy Huntley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Crook Huntley, his brothers; Rev. William “Buck” Huntley, David “Tom” Huntley, Rev. Ted Huntley, Monroe Huntley, George Huntley, Rev. Wade Huntley; sisters Lillian Curtis, Charlotte Ludlum, Molly Lefteris and Catherine DeWitt.
He preached the gospel over 65 years throughout Western North Carolina and Tennessee. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII.
Survivors include his wife: Jessie Skipper Huntley.
One daughter, Nancy Huntley Deaver and her husband Mack. One son, John J Huntley, Jr. and his wife Karen. Two grandchildren, Lena Huntley Robertson and her husband Carson, and Luke Huntley. Two great grandchildren, Clayton and Joanna Robertson. Two sister-in-laws: Cleo Huntley and Irene Huntley.
The funeral service will be at 7:00 PM Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Reverend James Henson, and Reverend Scott Moneyham officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Holly Springs Baptist Church.
Interment will be at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC at 11:00 AM Friday, October 25, 2019.
