Stanley Monroe Smith

Stanley Monroe Smith, age 78, of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Mission Hospital McDowell in Marion, NC.

A native of Rutherford County, Stanley was the son of the late Edrew Smith and Ordis Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Childers Smith, a son, Roger Smith and one brother, Carl Smith. 

During high school Stanley worked part time at WAGY radio as broadcaster. Over his long broadcasting career, he worked with many high-profile radio stations in upper South Carolina, Western North Carolina, and Eastern Tennessee. His radio surname was J. Worthington Smith at WESC, WLOS, WKOR, and WXIK. He also worked at WBBO, and WCAB as a late-night broadcaster.  Stanley did many interviews, and met with music stars of the 60's through the 80's. He was also known in the radio community as Snuffy Smith. Stanley had a passion for antique car collecting, which he had many he collected over the years. 

He is  survived by two sons, Christopher Smith of Rutherfordton, Shane Smith of Morganton, one sister, Shannon Smith Parker of Gilkey, two brothers, Paul Smith of Danieltown, and Dale Smith (Diane) of Gilkey, sister-in-law, Sharon Smith of Rutherfordton, daughter-in-law, Lisa Smith Cable of Union Mills, two grandchildren, Adam Smith, and Luke Smith.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Friday, January 13, 2023, at McMahan's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 13, 2023, with Reverend Henry Montgomery officiating. Interment will be private at Montford Cove Baptist Cemetery, Union Mills, NC. An online guest register is available at www.mcmahansfuneralhome.com.
