On November 3, 2020, Sybil Hill Cudd, loving mother, sister, and caregiver, passed away at the age of 84 following complications of COVID-19 at Asbury Health and Rehabilitation Center at Aldersgate in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Sybil was born September 28, 1936 in Rutherfordton, North Carolina to John Calvin (JC) and Hazel (Vaughn) Hill Sr. She pursued her passion of caring for others by becoming a registered nurse in 1958 and worked at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center continuously until her retirement. Sybil married Jerry Dean Cudd in 1958 and raised one son, Jeffrey Scott in Green Creek, North Carolina.
Sybil spent countless hours helping family, friends and those in need in her community throughout her life. Whether her time was spent listening, providing advice, or administering care, Sybil was always there for everyone. She particularly enjoyed Sundays, attending worship service, and then spending the afternoon at her parent’s home with her family including her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Sybil’s nurturing extended beyond people as she also enjoyed attending to her flower garden and growing vegetables. Sybil was known for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, John Calvin Hill Jr. and Curtis Dean (Bob) Hill. She is survived by her son Jeffrey Scott Cudd and his partner, Stuart Scott Ramsey, three brothers, Charles Hill, Glen Hill, and Steve Hill, three sisters, Jean Morgan, Annie Bell Hodge, and Lesia Greenway, and many nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be held at Sandy Springs Baptist Church Cemetery; 382 Sandy Springs Road; Rutherfordton North Carolina on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:00am with Reverend Philip Bailey and Reverend Terrell Dillingham officiating. Masks and social distancing are requested. A private visitation will be held for family only, on Friday, November 6, 2020 at McMahan’s Funeral Home in Rutherfordton, North Carolina.
