Virginia Hardin Russell "Ginger"

Virginia Hardin Russell “Ginger”” passed away peacefully in her room at Fairhaven on Monday, February 17, 2020 in Bostic, NC at the age of 85.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Bobby Glenn Russell, of Bostic, NC; by her two children, David Russell, and wife Anita Russell, of Harrisburg, NC and Glenda Russell Bond, and husband Robert Bond, of Charlotte, NC and one beloved grandson Noah Russell Bond of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her four sisters and one brother; Selma McEntire, of Cary, NC; Shirley Cinquemana, of Tampa, FL; Faye Armstrong, of Forest City, NC; Theresa Mauney, of Mooresboro, NC; and Eugene Hardin of Rutherfordton, NC.  She is preceded in death by her Mother, Mary Scoggins Hardin and her Father, Robert Grayson Hardin, both of Rutherfordton, NC.

Virginia was born on May 10, 1934, in Rutherfordton, NC.  Virginia and Glenn were high school sweethearts and recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.  They spent the majority of their married life in the home they built on Russell Drive. Before that, they owned and managed Russell’s Rest Well Home for a number of years. They enjoyed taking bus tours and traveled across the country together for many years.

Virginia gave her life to the Lord on August 18, 1946, at West Point Baptist Church during a revival service. She was baptized at age 12 in the river near the church. She served her Lord and Savior faithfully through the years in various ministries. Before her illness, Virginia was a faithful member of Crestview Baptist church where she loved singing in the choir.  She was also a devoted grandmother to Noah Bond and spoke often of her fond memories of spending time with him during his early years doing activities with him such as dying Easter eggs or watching him play in their yard on Russell Drive. 

The family will receive friends at McMahan’s Funeral Home (249 S Main St, Rutherfordton, NC) on Friday, February 21, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  The funeral service will be at Crestview Baptist Church (630 South Church Street, Forest City, NC 28043) on Saturday, February 22, at 11:00 am.  Reverend Kevin Rohm will officiate the ceremony. Burial will follow at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery (1850 Poors Ford Rd, Rutherfordton, NC).  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Virginia’s life.
